At Seething and Mundham Primary we celebrate the successes of the ‘whole child’, not just their academic performance. It is important to us that every child develops as an individual and we want them to foster a love of learning alongside strong social, moral, spiritual and cultural skills and awareness. The ability to learn together in cooperation and mutual respect is emphasised in all our work and we want our children to become confident, independent learners, able to enjoy and achieve across a full range of subjects and activities.

There are no school results or Primary League tables to measure many of the milestones that our children will achieve during their time at our school but as a school community we will celebrate and ensure that each step is highlighted and individuals grow in confidence and self esteem. We also place real emphasis on enjoying each other’s successes and valuing everyone’s part to play in our happy learning environment.

For Example:

  • Playing an instrument in our evening Musical Showcase Concert up on a stage.          065
  • Making it across the high monkey bars for the first time.
  • Reading your poem out in Parent’s Assembly.
  • Sleeping away from home at the KS2 two night residential trip.
  • Toasting your first marshmallow around the campfire.
  • Winning the 3 legged race at Sports Day with your best friend.

(The list is endless!)

Each year the school is required to publish sets of data that highlights attainment and progress in a very narrow range of headline figures. As a small school with low numbers in year groups, each child is worth a high percentage. For example in 2016 each child was 10% as we only have ten in the cohort! This small cohort effect has dramatic impact on data and needs to be considered when looking at school performance.

On-going assessments in school

At Seething and Mundham Primary school assessment is a key part in all our work, it forms the basis of our lesson planning and delivery. Our staff use “Assessment for Learning” in lessons to ensure that they are monitoring pupil’s performance against the learning objectives. These lesson objectives are shared with the children and they judge their work, or sometimes their peer’s work, in order to see how well they have achieved.

Feedback is crucial, it may be verbal or recorded but always helps the children know how to improve their understanding and subsequent work. Tests are used during the year to support teacher assessment and progress is reported termly to parents.
